Dr. Derica N. Sams, MD completed her pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at Vanderbilt University and residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned her M.D. from Morehouse School of Medicine and she is a graduate of Emory University with a B.S. in Biology and Educational Studies. Her clinical interests include obesity medicine, neurogastroenterology, functional GI disorders and integrative medicine. Dr. Sams has participated in the North American Society For Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition (NASPGHAN) Teaching and Tomorrow program. She was also a recipient of the American Gastroenterological Association's "Poster of distinction" for her collaborative research on the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and received the National Institute of Health (NIH) T32 institutional training grant at Vanderbilt University for her GI fellowship research on pediatric obesity. Dr. Sams enjoys spending time with her family, reading, yoga and meditation.
