Understanding the treatment
Active Ingredient:
Hydroquinone
This compounded hydroquinone spot treatment is designed to fade localized areas of hyperpigmentation such as sun spots, age spots, melasma, and post-inflammatory dark marks. Hydroquinone works by inhibiting tyrosinase, an enzyme central to melanin production, which gradually lightens excess pigment. It is prepared by a state-licensed compounding pharmacy under prescription and applied precisely to affected spots. Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen is essential while using it, both to protect results and to prevent new pigmentation. Because long-term continuous use of hydroquinone (especially at higher strengths) can rarely cause a bluish-gray discoloration called ochronosis, it is typically used in defined courses. Whether this treatment is appropriate, the strength, and the duration of use are determined by your Mochi provider.

Side effects
Most common: dryness, redness, mild stinging, and increased sun sensitivity, especially in the first few weeks. Less common: contact dermatitis and paradoxical darkening. With prolonged hydroquinone use, exogenous ochronosis (a bluish-gray skin discoloration) can occur. Always use daily sunscreen.
Avoid When
Pregnancy or breastfeeding; known hypersensitivity to hydroquinone; broken, eczematous, or sunburned skin; active rosacea flare. Avoid combining with strong exfoliants (AHAs, BHAs, benzoyl peroxide) initially. Long-term continuous use (especially at higher strengths) is not recommended due to the risk of ochronosis. Do not apply near the eyes or on mucous membranes.
