Did you know there are several other conditions that can have similar symptoms as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)? Let’s go over two!

Thyroid disorders

Your thyroid helps to regulate body temperature, metabolism, energy, and mood, as well as many other systems, by producing thyroid hormones. Thyroid disorders are incredibly common in the US. Many people have a condition known as Hashimoto’s, where autoimmune antibodies block thyroid hormone production.

Some symptoms of thyroid disorders include:

·      Fatigue

·      weight gain

·      feeling colder

·      hair loss

·      menstrual changes

·      dry skin and nails

In some cases, you may notice a Goiter, which is an enlargement of the thyroid gland over your Adam’s apple.

Hypercortisolism

Your cortisol levels are involved in regulating fat and muscle distribution and production, menstrual cycle, stress, and many other pathways. An overproduction of cortisol is most commonly from Cushing Syndrome and may lead to symptoms such as:

·      increased fat around your face or abdomen

·      weight gain

·      acne

·      thin skin and bruising

·      stretch marks

You may need lab testing, such as salivary or urine samples, to determine the cause of your high cortisol levels.
