The treatment
Understanding the treatment
Active Ingredient:
Finasteride and Minoxidil
This compounded preparation combines finasteride and minoxidil. Finasteride blocks the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which lowers DHT levels. Topical minoxidil is FDA-approved for androgenetic alopecia and acts locally on hair follicles. This combination product is compounded by state-licensed compounding pharmacies and is not FDA-approved as a combination. Whether this preparation is appropriate, the strengths, and the dosing are determined by your Mochi provider.

Side effects
Finasteride: decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, ejaculatory changes, breast tenderness or enlargement, and mood changes (including depression). Rare persistent sexual side effects ('post-finasteride syndrome') have been reported. Minoxidil: scalp irritation, unwanted facial/body hair, and, with oral use, fluid retention or increased heart rate. Initial shedding is common and usually temporary.
Avoid When
Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or may become pregnant must not handle finasteride (risk of birth defects in male fetuses); known hypersensitivity to either ingredient; history of liver disease (oral finasteride); significant heart disease or low blood pressure (oral minoxidil). Use caution if you have a personal or family history of male breast cancer.
