The treatment
Understanding the treatment
Active Ingredient:
Minoxidil
Minoxidil is a topical vasodilator that helps stimulate hair growth by prolonging the growth (anagen) phase of the hair cycle and improving blood flow to hair follicles. Topical minoxidil (2% and 5%) is FDA-approved for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia in adults. Results typically take 3–6 months and require ongoing use to maintain.

Side effects
Topical: scalp itching, dryness, flaking, redness, and unwanted facial hair if the product migrates. Oral: lightheadedness, swelling in the ankles or face, increased heart rate, hair growth in unwanted areas, and rarely fluid around the heart (pericardial effusion). Initial 'shedding' in the first few weeks is common and usually temporary.
Avoid When
Known hypersensitivity to minoxidil; pregnancy or breastfeeding (oral form). Use caution with low blood pressure, significant heart disease, fluid retention, or kidney disease (oral form). Topical: avoid applying to broken or irritated skin. Discuss with your provider before starting if you take other blood pressure medications.
