Active Ingredient:
Tirzepatide
Zepbound are brand-name formulations of tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable that activates both GIP and GLP-1 receptors. By targeting two appetite-regulating hormones at once, tirzepatide reduces hunger, slows gastric emptying, and improves insulin sensitivity. Mounjaro is FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes, while Zepbound is FDA-approved for chronic weight management in adults with obesity or overweight with weight-related conditions. Treatment starts at a low dose and is gradually increased to help your body adjust and minimize gastrointestinal side effects.
Side effects
Most common: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, indigestion, decreased appetite, fatigue, and injection-site reactions. Less common but serious: pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, acute kidney injury from dehydration, hypoglycemia (with other diabetes meds), worsening diabetic retinopathy, and rare severe allergic reactions.
Avoid When
Personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2; history of pancreatitis; severe gastroparesis or other significant GI disease; pregnancy or breastfeeding; known hypersensitivity. Use caution with insulin or sulfonylureas (hypoglycemia), gallbladder disease, kidney disease, or diabetic retinopathy.
